A POLICE officer has been charged after the unmarked car he was driving collided with a pedestrian on a roundabout.
PC Dan Parsons, aged 32, is due to appear at Bristol Magistrates Court tomorrow to face a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with the collision, in which a 19-year-old woman suffered serious injuries.
It happened at the Wick Wick roundabout junction between the A4174 Avon Ring Road and the A432 Badminton Road, by the Willy Wicket pub, on November 24 last year.
The woman spent several weeks in hospital but has since been released.
Police car was responding to emergency
Avon & Somerset police say PC Parsons was driving an unmarked police car responding to an emergency when it was in collision with the woman, who has not been named.
A police spokesperson said: “As is standard procedure in these circumstances, we made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which determined it to be suitable for a local investigation by our Professional Standards Department.
“An investigation into the collision has also been carried out by our Serious Collision Investigations Team and the case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service, resulting in the officer being charged.”
